Even engineering firms with smart internal IT guys need someone to watch their six.

We work with an aerospace and nuclear engineering firm in Idaho Falls that has a solid internal IT guy — shoutout to Austin — but needed a backup crew he could actually rely on. Not some take-over-the-network vendor, but someone who could plug in where he needed help and stay in their lane.

That’s where we came in.

Austin reached out because he was tired of the usual MSP runaround. He told us that most of the IT companies he called either didn’t follow up or acted weird about working with someone already managing things in-house. It’s like the second they heard “we already have IT,” they bailed. That’s a common theme we hear from engineering firms — they’re not looking to hand off the whole stack, they just want help where it counts.

For Applied Engineering Services, Inc. (AES), that meant:

  • Firewall support they didn’t have to babysit

  • Fully managed server backups and disaster recovery

  • Someone local, responsive, and technical — without the ego

  • A real co-managed IT setup, not a power struggle

From the start, we worked with Austin, not around him. We helped design and implement a firewall setup that met their security and compliance needs, tested and deployed everything, and now monitor it ongoing. He doesn’t have to touch it unless he wants to.

Same deal with the server backups. We manage all of it — backups are off-site, encrypted, monitored, and tested regularly. No more “Did the backup job run?” stress.

Austin still owns the day-to-day (with his other internal IT mate, Jade), and we handle the backend: long-term security, disaster recovery, and compliance. The handoff is clean, communication is solid, and nobody’s stepping on anyone’s toes.

Here’s what he actually said about working with us:

“When we were looking for an IT partner for our Engineering firm, we were surprised by how unresponsive most IT companies were. Then we met Aaron and TotalCare IT. Not only are the team at TotalCare responsive, they are also very knowledgeable and friendly. They helped us with our firewall implementation and continue the maintenance of it along with our server backups. Finally, we have an IT company we feel good about recommending to other businesses in Idaho – TotalCare IT!”

AES has been around since ’92 and handles some pretty critical stuff. Engineering, risk reduction, system inspections — the kind of work where the tech has to just work. They want secure, functional systems, and peace of mind that nothing’s going to fall apart in the background.

If you're an internal IT admin and you're drowning in tickets, juggling compliance, or dealing with backups that give you anxiety at night — we get it. We’ve been the team behind the team before, and it works because we’re not trying to replace you.

Especially for engineering firms in Idaho — Boise, Idaho Falls, Nampa — we know the stakes are high, and things need to run smoothly without drama. If you’ve been burned by flaky MSPs or you’re tired of doing it all yourself, let’s talk.

Sometimes the best IT solution is a partner that actually shows up.
