• RPO (Recovery Point Objective): How much data can you afford to lose? If your RPO is four hours, you need backups running at least that frequently.

Recovery speed depends on how your backups are structured. Image-based backups stored locally and in the cloud can be spun up quickly on a remote server during an emergency. Tape-only or fragmented backups can take days. Most businesses discover which camp they're in at the worst possible moment.
